you may be thinking of the buddelia or butterfly bush; it has very similar looking flowers; comes in a variety of colors; white, dark purple, reddish purple, blue; etc; they smell really good to %26amp; attract butterflies like crazy; i once had 12 various ones; swallowtails, monarchs, etc on mine here in Oregon. They are drought tolerant, love bad soil, %26amp; you can cut %26amp; prune back hard %26amp; they come back more beautiful than ever. The only one I have never cared for is the yellow which has globe shaped flowers; lots of times folks refer to them as the summer lilacs. No they are spring flowering, if someone is advertising it as blooming longer chances are it is not a lilac.
